Vital new spine road opens up at Innsworth Park

The new spine road connecting the A40 northern bypass to Innsworth has opened, creating a vital link that connects the communities of Churchdown, Staverton and Innsworth with easy access to Gloucester and the M5.

The road leaves the A40 at a new roundabout between Longford and Elmbridge Court and runs approximately 1.4km north-west to join Innsworth Lane.

It forms an integral part of the 147-acre Innsworth Park mixed-use development and provides access to the burgeoning residential area of 1,300 homes being built at Whittle Gardens by Taylor Wimpey and Barratt.

It also opens up full access to the entire commercial development which encompasses a 10-acre district centre, a 6.7-acre business park, 4-acre office park, a new primary school and sport and leisure facilities.

Technical and Residential Development Director for developer Robert Hitchins, Gordon Jeynes, is pleased to see the spine road, called Main Street, come to fruition and fully operational.

“It greatly eases access to Innsworth from the A40, and vastly improves connectivity between Innsworth, Cheltenham and Gloucester. It may also ease traffic on the A38 and the wider communities,” he said.

“Innsworth Park is a really exciting development. As well as providing 1,300 homes including affordable homes and job opportunities for hundreds of people, it is creating a whole new community north of Gloucester, along with the infrastructure needed to support it. It’s a huge boost to the local economy.

“We’re pleased to see the development taking shape and opening up so many opportunities.”

Planning permission for Innsworth Park was granted in 2017.
